Dr. Ginger Gummelt

Dr. Gummelt is the chair of the department of Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, & Anthropology at Lamar University. She is an Associate Professor of Social Work and a leader in social work education. Dr. Gummelt is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 20 years of experience in direct practice including extensive work with children and families in the foster care system. She has served as the coordinator and principal researcher for the local “Do the Write Thing” Campaign which seeks to address and better understand the impact of violence on the lives of children and adolescents. Dr. Gummelt is an active member of the SETX Recovery Task Force, Lamar University Athletics Council, the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Task Force, the Jefferson County Juvenile Justice Council, and the Youth Recovery Council. Dr. Gummelt’s research centers on vulnerable populations with a focus on child welfare and children’s exposure to violence.
